UTM Link Builder
Fill in the destination and the campaign fields, and copy a link your analytics tool will file in the right place. Source, medium and campaign are the three that matter.
About this tool
The link is assembled with the browser’s own URL parser, so a destination that already has a query string or a fragment keeps both, and your values are encoded correctly rather than glued on as raw text. Leave a field blank and it is simply omitted.
You can drop the protocol if you like. A bare domain gets https:// prepended before parsing, and the finished URL appears as you type so you can eyeball it before copying.
Everything runs in your browser — nothing you enter here is sent to a server or stored. Provided as is, without warranty.
Tagging links without making a mess of your reports
The hard part of campaign tagging is not the syntax, it is the discipline. Analytics tools treat these values as opaque strings and group by exact match, so Newsletter, newsletter and news-letter become three separate rows that you then have to reconcile by hand. Pick lowercase, pick one word separator, and stick to it from the first link you ever tag. Retrofitting consistency across six months of history is not a job anyone enjoys.
A convention that survives contact with a growing team: source is where the click physically came from (linkedin, producthunt, the name of the newsletter that carried you), medium is the type of channel (social, email, referral, cpc), and campaign is the thing you are running, ideally with a date in it so next year’s version does not merge with this one’s. Content is for splitting two links that go to the same page in the same send, which is how you learn whether people click the headline or the button.
The caveat worth knowing early: never tag internal links. If you add parameters to a link that goes from one page of your own site to another, most analytics tools will treat that click as a brand new session and credit the visit to whatever you wrote in the source field. That is how a founder ends up reporting that their biggest acquisition channel is their own footer. Tag only links that live somewhere you do not control: emails, ads, social posts, partner sites, sponsorships.
One more practical note. Tagged URLs are ugly and they get screenshotted, pasted into group chats and shared onwards, which quietly attributes organic word of mouth to your ad campaign. For anything likely to be reshared, consider a clean vanity path that redirects to the tagged URL. And if the placement is printed rather than clicked, keep the string short for the reasons explained on the QR code generator page.
